Self-aligning ball bearings are double-row, self-retaining units consisting of outer rings with a concave raceway, inner rings with a cylindrical or tapered bore and ball and cage assemblies. Self-aligning ball bearings are open and sealed. Self-aligning ball bearings are available in different versions. In addition to the radial forces, self-aligning ball bearings also absorb axial forces in both directions. Self-aligning ball bearings in the 12, 13, 22 and 23 series are available with a cylindrical or tapered bore. Bearings with a tapered bore have a bore taper of 1:12 and the suffix K. Self-aligning ball bearings with a tapered bore are also supplied with an adapter sleeve, slotted nut and lock washer. The clamping sleeves must be ordered in addition to the bearing. Bearings in the 112 series have a wide inner ring, a locating groove on one side of the inner ring and are located with dowel pins. These bearings are for simple bearings with standard shafts. Due to the tolerance of the bearing bore (J7), they are very easy to assemble. Ball bearings in the 12, 13, 22 and 23 series are also available in the sealed version. Sealed bearings have a rubbing seal on both sides and the suffix 2RS. Sealed bearings are greased with a high-quality grease and are maintenance-free. Under normal operating conditions and with the inner ring rotating, self-aligning ball bearings can be swiveled around 4° from the central position. Sealed bearings, on the other hand, have a maximum of 1.5°. As a result, they allow misalignments between the outer and inner ring and thus compensate for misalignments, shaft deflections and housing deformations. With a rotating outer ring or wobbling inner ring, the angular adjustability is less. Open bearings with brass cages can be used at operating temperatures from -30°C to +150°C. Ball bearings with cages made of glass fiber reinforced polyamide are suitable for operating temperatures of just +120°C! Limited by the lubricating grease and the sealing material, sealed self-aligning ball bearings are only suitable for operating temperatures from -30°C to +100°C.
