The axial needle roller and cage assembly AXK corresponds to DIN 5 405-2. It consists of a plastic or metal axial cage with integrated needle rollers and has a very low axial overall height. The rim absorbs high axial forces in one direction. Radial loads must be included separately. The axial needle roller and cage assembly requires that hardened and ground contact surfaces can be used as a raceway. Axial needle roller bearings, i.e. their main component the needle roller and cage assembly, consist of a dimensionally stable cage in which a large number of needle rollers are safely guided and held. The needle rollers have extremely small diameter deviations from one another and allow for high axial loads and shock-resistant bearings. The needle rollers are designed with slightly crowned surface lines towards the ends, which allows for a modified linear contact between the raceways and the needle rollers. This end profiling avoids damaging edge stresses and extends the service life of the bearing. Needle bearings result in very stiff bearings with small to very small axial space requirements. Particularly space-saving bearings, which require no more space than conventional thrust washers, result when the end faces of the adjacent machine parts can be used as raceways for the axial needle roller and cage assembly. The axial needle roller and cage assembly with plastic cage is suitable for operating temperatures from -20 °C to +120 °C. The axial needle roller and cage assembly with plastic cage have the suffix TV. A needle roller and cage assembly is a one- or two-row unit consisting of a cage and needle rollers. The single-row design is based on DIN 5 405-1. Particularly low cross-section height: since their radial height only corresponds to the diameter of the needle rollers, needle roller and cage assemblies enable bearings with the smallest radial space. They are very stable, suitable for high speeds and particularly easy to assemble. Bearings with a high level of concentricity are achieved if the raceways are designed with precise form. The radial internal clearance can be influenced by the type of needle roller and the shaft and housing tolerance. Needle roller and cage assemblies require that the raceway on the shaft and in the housing is hardened and ground.
